All manual handling training courses are taught by a fully qualified Advanced Member of the National Back Exchange (NBE) in line with NBE Standards and the Moving and Handling of people 6TH Ed (HOP 6).

This full day’s programme is designed to develop the basic skills and knowledge for workers in the care industry. The course covers their mandatory training requirements set out by law by the Health and Safety Executive, to promote good techniques and posture when moving and handling people.

All manual handling training courses are taught by a fully qualified Advanced Member of the National Back Exchange (NBE) in line with NBE Standards and the Moving and Handling of people 6TH Ed (HOP 6).

All staff that are new to Health and Social Care can apply to complete this course. It’s ideal for those working in the community, volunteering or if you just want to be increase your knowledge in this mandatory requirement.

On successful completion of this course the student will be awarded a certificate of competence for their CPD file in line with current best practice and H&S law.

At the end of the session the students will be able to understand and:

  • Identify their legal responsibilities with regards to moving and handling of people.
  • Understand the requirement for maintaining a good posture.
  • Demonstrate safe moving and handling techniques.
  • Explain the importance of risk assessment and its relationship with moving and handling.
  • Identify poor manual handling and unsafe techniques.
  • Understand the basic functions of the spine and the damage caused by poor manual handling.
  • Be able to use moving and handling equipment safely in line with LOLER.

Parking

Under new heading Parking to all courses add “There is limited parking on site due to 24 hour operational staff use. There is ample on street parking nearby, but delegates are encouraged to cycle, use public transport or car share where possible. Please follow government guidance on transport during COVID-19 control measures.

By car – The address and postcode is CIPHER Medical, 5 Limeoak Way, Stockton on Tees, TS18 2LS.

By foot – We are based just under a mile from Stockton High Street (approx 15 minutes’ walk).

By public transport – Stockton High Street is well served by busses. Stockton Railway Station and Thornaby Railway Station are both approximately 1 mile from the venue. 

By bike – We are just off the National Cycle Network Routes 1 and 14.

There are a range of accommodations to suit every budget. These are two hotels within a short journey that we can recommend.

Equipment Required

Stationary, tablets or laptops for note-taking and reference during lessons. All other equipment will be provided.

Dress Code

Due to the practical nature of the course, students are encouraged to wear robust clothing, including sturdy footwear. Some simulations may take place outdoors and therefore warm/waterproof clothing should be brought where appropriate.

Pre Course Reading / Learning

None required.

Refreshments

Refreshments will be provided throughout the course. Food storage, refrigeration and microwaves are available for lunch preparation during the course. There are a number of shops within a few minutes’ drive of the venue.

CIPHER Medical has risked assessed and taken appropriate measures recommended by the UK Government to ensure the safety of delegates and staff taking part in essential face-to-face training, including the provision of appropriate sanitisation facilities and PPE. 

Delegates are encouraged to bring a face covering, however, if you forget we will provide you with one. 

Courses will go ahead subject to any restrictions imposed by the UK Government, including local lockdowns or changes in legislation. CIPHER Medical will do our utmost to provide reasonable notice to all delegates, however, restrictions could be imposed at any time and are beyond our control. Course fees will be refunded for any course cancelled due to COVID-19.
