The Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving (CERAD) is to provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding required to prepare, drive and manoeuvre ambulance vehicles under both routine and emergency response conditions.

Step 3 - Entry Requirements Previous step

Below is our entry requirements for the course, please confirm you have the following before signing onto the course.

Learners must Yes
  • Be 18 years of age (or older) on the first day of teaching.
  • Not have any outstanding court cases, prosecutions or pending disciplinary action in any area being brought against them.
  • Have a contract with either an NHS ambulance service or a voluntary or private ambulance provider that is CQC registered and contracted to provide emergency ambulance provision to the NHS ambulance services. For devolved nations, this will be the CQC equivalent ambulance service, if applicable.
  • Hold a valid driving license for the class of vehicle being driven for the full duration of the qualification.

CERAD Course Overview

The purpose of the FAQ Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving (RQF) is to provide Learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding required to prepare, drive and manoeuvre ambulance vehicles under both routine and emergency response conditions.

This qualification is designed for road systems subject to UK legislation and covers driving legislation, driver responsibilities, pre-driving checks and daily inspections, the system of car control, driving under routine and emergency response conditions, manoeuvring and reversing, safety systems, emergency response driving practices, navigation, adverse conditions and human factors.

This qualification meets the requirements for ambulance service drivers to claim exemptions under road traffic legislation and to operate to the specification of the Road Traffic Regulations Act (exemption for speed limit regulations).

This qualification is aimed at individuals who work, or intend to work, as an ambulance support worker, associate ambulance practitioner or an HCPC registered paramedic.

Entry Requirements for the CERAD Course

Learners must:

  • be 18 years of age (or older) on the first day of teaching.
  • possess the right values, behaviours and attributes appropriate to the role.
  • not have any outstanding court cases, prosecutions or pending disciplinary action in any area being brought against them.
  • have a contract with either an NHS ambulance service or a voluntary or private ambulance provider that is CQC registered and contracted to provide emergency ambulance provision to the NHS ambulance services. For devolved nations, this will be the CQC equivalent ambulance service, if applicable.
  • hold a valid driving license for the class of vehicle being driven for the full duration of the qualification.

CERAD Certification

Upon successful completion of the written and practical assessments the following certificates will be awarded:

  • FutureQuals Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving

 

CERAD Course Content

The programme includes but is not limited to the following subjects:

  • Be able to carry out a pre-shift vehicle daily inspection and pre driving checks
  • Be able to comply with current legislation and driving regulations at all times
  • Be able to use vehicles’ braking systems
  • Be able to use vehicles’ steering systems
  • Understand the use and effects of vehicle safe systems
  • Be able to navigate during routine driving
  • Be able to use the system of car control
  • Be able to use vehicles’ transmission systems during emergency driving
  • Be able to drive in emergency response situations
  • Be able to navigate when responding to emergencies.

Parking

Under new heading Parking to all courses add “There is limited parking on site due to 24 hour operational staff use. There is ample on street parking nearby, but delegates are encouraged to cycle, use public transport or car share where possible. Please follow government guidance on transport during COVID-19 control measures.

By foot – We are based just under a mile from Stockton High Street (approx 15 minutes’ walk).

Dress Code

Appropriate ambulance uniform to be worn and all PPE to be carried.

If you dont have uniform sensible outdoor clothing with suitable footwear should be worn.

Pre Course Reading / Learning

Students should complete the pre course learning, this will be available prior to course start date.

Refreshments

You will need to arrange your own lunch. You are welcome to
bring a packed lunch.

CIPHER Medical has risked assessed and taken appropriate measures recommended by the UK Government to ensure the safety of delegates and staff taking part in essential face-to-face training, including the provision of appropriate sanitisation facilities and PPE. 

Delegates are encouraged to bring a face covering, however, if you forget we will provide you with one. 

Courses will go ahead subject to any restrictions imposed by the UK Government, including local lockdowns or changes in legislation. CIPHER Medical will do our utmost to provide reasonable notice to all delegates, however, restrictions could be imposed at any time and are beyond our control. Course fees will be refunded for any course cancelled due to COVID-19.
