ELCAS Course Information

CIPHER Medical has experience with understanding what members of the armed forces need, as our CEO worked within the Royal Air Force for 18 years as a paramedic, and we have many veterans and serving members of the armed forces in our employment. The company is also proud to be awarded the Armed Forces Covenant – Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award in 2020, as an onward support to those who serve.

As medicine and healthcare are one of the cornerstone career pathways where lifelong learning is fundamental, we invite you to start the journey with us via the The Ministry of Defences Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme (ELC) and develop a career in the Ambulance Service.

ELC promotes lifelong learning amongst members of the Armed Forces and is controlled by the Ministry of Defence’s Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Service (ELCAS). The scheme provides financial support in each of a maximum of three separate financial years for higher level learning of a nationally recognised qualification at Level three or above or, if pursued overseas, an approved international equivalent qualification with an approved learning provider.

How does it work?

There are several stages to the ELC process. Full information is set out in Joint Service Publication (JSP) 822, however the following criteria applies;

  • You must be a registered Scheme Member and have accrued sufficient service before submitting an online claim
  • If you are still serving then speak to your Education Staff, or, for Service Leavers contact your SSR. Appropriate checks can then be done to issue your account.
  • Once you have an account, search for an approved provider and course name, then simply log in and submit your claim
  • Finally, you must complete your Course Evaluation when requested, further claims cannot be processed until you previous course evaluation has been completed.

You will need to download and complete your ELCAS claims form and give it to your commanding officer or service-learning staff. If you have already left the armed forces, you may still be eligible, and ELCAS can advise you where you can submit the application form.

Once eligibility for funding is confirmed, ELCAS will send you a Claim Authorisation Note (CAN) that you can then use to book your chosen course. CIPHER Medical have the following courses are available with ELCAS fund;

Qualsafe – Level 3 Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
Further information on the ELCAS scheme can be found on the ELCAS website – Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Service, along with a helpful guide to completing your application form.
